CARETAKERS looks at the history of Filipinos in care work and profiles Filipino Americans on the front lines today. The film shows, as filmmaker Geena Rocero says, “Filipinos as we are," while telling the stories of all people providing vital care. Meet caretakers like Belinda Ellis, a nurse who for patients with COVID-19 at Elmhurst Hospital in Queens, NY; Aleksa Manila, a therapist and House of Manila's drag mother; Chef Channing Centeno, who cooked for Black Lives Matter protestors; and Angel Bonilla, a phlebotomist and the first trans contestant on The Voice.
